Due to the incredible popularity of Yosemite National Park, road congestion within the park can be a major problem during peak visitation (Memorial Day through Labor Day). A system of free shuttle busses run within the park and are highly recommended.
Transportation Services
Visitors can ride the YARTS - Yosemite Area Regional Transit System (877-989-2787) from gateway communities outside the park into Yosemite Valley. YARTS and VIA buses connect with Amtrak and Greyhound in Merced. Free shuttle buses run within the Yosemite Valley.

Airports
Fresno Yosemite International Airport offers daily flights to a few dozen major and regional airports across the country. The airport is a little over an hour's drive from the south entrance of Yosemite National Park.

Basic Directions
There are five entrances to the park: The South Entrance on Highway 41 north from Fresno, the Arch Rock entrance on Highway 140 west from Merced, Big Oak Flat entrance on Highway 120 west from Modesto and Manteca, Hetch Hetchy Entrance (to Hetch Hetchy Valley), and the Tioga Pass entrance on Highway 120 east from Lee Vining and Highway 395. The Tioga Pass entrance is closed from the first major snowstorm in November until late May to early June due to snow. All other park entrances are kept open all year, but may require tire chains because of snow any time between November and April.
