This forested trail is mainly an access route to the Timberline Trail and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Qualities of the trail itself include wildflowers in June and huckleberries in late August. It is heavily visited. This ½ mile access trail climbs about 250 feet, so while it is not excessively steep, given that the climbing starts right from the get go it tends to feel steeper than it is.

Regulations & Leave No Trace Information: While these regulations don’t apply directly to Top Spur, 95% of the trail users do continue on into the Mt Hood Wilderness where they do apply. ?? Wilderness Permits are required between May 15 and Oct 15, but are free and self-issuing at a permit box station where the trail enters wilderness. ?? Group size is limited to 12. On trails that allow stock, stock are counted in the group size. For example, 3 people each riding their own horse plus a spare horse in the group for packing would make a group of 7. ?? Unproccessed livestock feed is prohibited, preventing non-native plant spread. ?? There are other wilderness regulations regarding fires and camping.
