Non-motorized boats only. Packable rubber rafts and float tubes are used by some fishermen in the wilderness areas; however, due to the remoteness, steep terrain, and cross country travel to this lake, packing in the extra weight and bulk of boat craft is not advised.
A valid California state fishing license is needed to fish within the National Forest. Licenses are sold at sporting good and other retail stores. For information on fishing times & limits a current state fishing regulation guide is generally available free at these same locations. For more information contact California Department of Fish & Game.

Basic Directions
This lake can be accessed from Interstate 5 at Yreka, via State Route 3 about 21 miles west to Greenview, CA. County Road 5G001 travels west out of Greenview (also known as the North Kidder Creek Road). This road ends after about 10 miles at a trailhead along Kidder Creek. The trail leads in the general direction of the lake, passing Kidder Lake and connecting further up the Kidder Creek Trail with the Pacific Crest Trail. The Pacific Crest Trail passes above Maneaten Lake; however, map and compass skills are necessary because there is no trail directly to the lake.
