Description
This reservoir is a classic mountain reservoir, set at elevation and surrounded by steep peaks and alpine fir. The water is clear and cool, mirroring an untouched blue sky. Lassen National Park makes up part of the pure, natural horizon.
The lake is more than landscape, of course. Birds flock to the banks, the Canada goose the most common species. Others include the teal and the widgeon duck. A sharp birder is also likely to spot a heron or an osprey.
If birders will want to keep an eye on the shores, the angler will want to take a boat onto the lake. Brown and rainbow trout are the big catches here, plentiful and healthy, but smallmouth bass and king salmon are other popular and productive species to lay out a line for.
