Basic Directions
This lake can be accessed via Interstate 5 at Yreka, to State Route 3 for 28 miles to Etna, CA. Idlewild Campground is about 19 miles via County Road 2E01. From the campground via Forest Service road 41N37 it is about two and a half miles to the Mule Bridge Trailhead and Mulebridge Campground. Hancock Lake is about a 15 mile walk up the North Fork Trail from this trailhead.
This lake can also be accessed up the Little North Fork Trail, which takes off from a trailhead about a mile from the Little North Fork Campground up Forest Road 40N51. From this direction, the lake is also about a 15 mile walk.
