Description

From Still Creek Road this trail climbs steeply and is more primitive than many other trails in the area. Grades of 25% are not uncommon. A 25% grade means for every 4 feet you move forward, you climb up one foot.

Access to Devil’s Peak Lookout and Hunchback Ridge. Once at the junction with Hunchback, go north less than a quarter mile to the lookout access. On a north facing Cascade mountainside, this trail is primarily forested but a few breaks allow views of Mt Hood, particularly near the upper reaches of the trail.

Regulations & Leave No Trace Information: Mountain bikes are not prohibited but they are not recommended. Devil’s Peak Lookout has been out of service for over 25 years but is open to the public. ?? The lookout is kept unlocked at all times. There is no fee or reservation system to visit the lookout. ?? A water source is located approximately 300 yards north of the lookout on the north side of Hunchback Trail. This water source can dry up as the summer goes on. ?? There is no outhouse. Go at least 200 feet from the lookout, keeping away from any water sources and dig a 6-8” cat hole. ?? Pack out everything including toilet paper and all food scrapes. Don’t leave food. ?? Do not cut trees in the area. ?? If you are interested in helping maintain the lookout, contact the Zigzag Ranger Station.
